China?s cumulative imports through May remain under 2009

The strain is beginning to show on China?s plastics imports amid an admitted slowdown in economic growth. Cumulative imports through May 2012 reached a figure of 6.255 mln tons, as per ChemOrbis, below cumulative imports as of May 2011, 2010 and 2009. In May 2009, the cumulative figure had been at 6.956 mln tons.

Rise in China’s plastics consumption in 2012 insufficient to melt regional supply glut

China’s consumption of plastic could grow by up to 7% in 2012 after stalling in 2011, but the rebound will not be enough to melt a regional supply glut that will curb the output of plastic manufacturers and pressure the petrochemical market, as per Reuters. Weak traditional export markets and Bejing’s steps to cool economic growth are still hitting sales. As a result, Asian plastic exporters face possibility of scaling back production further this year, in turn cutting demand for naphtha.

Successful NPE2012 far surpassed the previous NPE and was the most international of all

The NPE2012 plastics exposition, which took place April 1-5 in Orlando, Florida, substantially exceeded NPE2009 in size, and it attracted more participants from outside the United States than any other NPE in history, it was announced today by SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association, which produces the triennial event.

More exhibitors at NPE 2012, larger booths, more equipment, more resin suppliers, more visitors

With five weeks left before opening day, the NPE2012 international plastics exposition is on course to be a huge, dynamic event, in line with NPE successes of the past and substantially stronger than the last NPE in 2009, it was announced today by SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association, which produces the triennial trade show. Thus far 1,830 companies have purchased 903,000 sq.ft. (83,890 sq.m) of exhibit space at NPE2012, and commitments by more companies can be expected between now and opening day, according to Gene Sanders, SPIÂ’s senior vice president of trade shows and conferences

Milacron expands production of Magna Servo Machines to USA from India

Milacron Plastics Technologies, a U.S.-based, worldwide supplier of plastics-processing technologies, recently expanded the production of its Magna Servo injection molding machines from India to include the United States. The company will display this technology at its NPE Booth (West Hall, #2803). The Magna Servo machines were developed by Ferromatik Milacron India, Milacron’s Indian affiliate, and have been in production there since 2008.

Dow selects Honeywell UOP C(3) Oleflex? technology for US plant

UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, has been selected by The Dow Chemical Company to provide technology to produce propylene at a Dow production site in Texas. Dow Texas Operations will use Honeywell UOP C(3) Oleflex™ technology in a new propane dehydrogenation unit to convert shale gas-derived propane to propylene, a product used in the production of packaging, adhesives, coatings, cleaners and many other end-use applications. The facility will produce 750,000 metric tpa of polymer-grade propylene

Honam to expand in China, USA to bring newly developed fiber and nanocomposite plastics to global markets

Honam Petrochemical Corp. plans to expand its compounding capacity in China and also add long-fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite manufacturing in the United States, as part of a push to bring newly developed fiber and nanocomposite plastics to global markets, as per PlasticsNews.com. 2010 PET container recycling rate at 29% : seventh consecutive year of increase in US PET recycling rate

The National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR), The Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers (APR), and the PET Resin Association (PETRA) announced today the release of the “2010 Report on Post Consumer PET Container Recycling Activity” and a 2010 Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) container recycling rate of 29%. This is the seventh straight year that the United States’ recycling rate has increased. Total PET collected for recycling was also highest to date, as was the use of recycled PET in end-use applications, at over 1.5 and 1 billion lbs, respectively.

US companies to collaborate to establish JV projects to recycle waste into plastic and oil

Green EnviroTech Holdings Corp. has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with 5 Stone Green Capital, LLC (5 Stone), a fund manager based in New York. Under the LOI, both parties agree to collaborate to establish joint venture projects in recycling waste into plastic and oil within the United States and internationally, the initial focus being in the United States.
