Astra Polymers inks agreement with BASF to manufacture customer specific blends

Astra Polymers, a developer and producer of plastic compounds in the Middle East, has entered into a new cooperative agreement with BASF Plastic Additives Middle East to manufacture customer specific blends (CSB) in Saudi Arabia. The agreement integrates the capabilities of both the companies and brings two innovative technologies for additive blends to clients in the region.

SE Asia?s PVC demand picks up following July decreases

Players in Southeast Asia report that PVC demand has picked up this month despite July not usually being a a good month in terms of PVC demand in the region, as per ChemOrbis. Many buyers who had elected to stay away from the market in June have returned following the steep July decreases implemented in the region?s local markets. The recent upward movement in upstream costs was also cited as a factor supporting healthier PVC demand as many players feel that the market is close to the bottom of its current declining trend.

GE collaboration with Braskem Idesa for a high-efficiency Polyethylene Complex

Mexico will significantly reduce the amount of polyethylene it imports for manufacturing, packaging and other industrial applications when its new polyethylene complex featuring GE hyper compressor technology goes online. The Veracruz plant, which brings high-volume, high-efficiency plastics production to the region, is a joint venture between two major petrochemical producers in the Americas, BrazilÂ’s Braskem S.A. and MexicoÂ’s Grupo Idesa.

New petrochemical process to use Marcellus Gas future plant targeted for the Tri-state region

PittsburghÂ’s own Renewable Manufacturing Gateway (RMG) has signed a Letter of Engagement (LOE) with Aither Chemicals LLC (Aither). RMG and Aither have agreed to collaborate to finance and build a large chemical plant using AitherÂ’s ethane catalytic cracker technology. With an investment of US$750 mln over the next five years, the project is expected to create over 2000 construction jobs, 200 permanent direct production jobs, and many thousand indirect jobs in the Tri-State Region (Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Northern West Virginia)
