Recycling efforts increase post-consumer plastic packaging by 15% across Canada

The Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA) released a new report informing Canadians that their recycling efforts have increased the amount of post-consumer plastic packaging being recycled across Canada. An additional 15% of plastic packaging was recycled in 2010 compared to 2009 as reported by Moore Recycling Associates Inc.

Egyptian buyers unhappy with new protection fees on homo-PP imports

The Egyptian government implemented a protection fee of 15% on all homo-PP imports effective for 200 days from June 5 to December 22, 2012, as per ChemOrbis. Egyptian PP producer EPPC pointed to strong competition from lower priced import cargoes as support for the new measures, but buyers have expressed anger regarding the new protection measures, which they feel to be unjustified. Egypt?s Chamber of Industry has also protested the new protection fees, arguing that the new measures will hamper the country?s export trade in finished plastic products while adding that EPPC?s production is not large enough to satisfy the market?s needs

GE collaboration with Braskem Idesa for a high-efficiency Polyethylene Complex

Mexico will significantly reduce the amount of polyethylene it imports for manufacturing, packaging and other industrial applications when its new polyethylene complex featuring GE hyper compressor technology goes online. The Veracruz plant, which brings high-volume, high-efficiency plastics production to the region, is a joint venture between two major petrochemical producers in the Americas, BrazilÂ’s Braskem S.A. and MexicoÂ’s Grupo Idesa.

IDB to boost competitiveness of Mexico?s petrochemical sector with US$600 mln loan to Braskem-Idesa

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$300 million A Loan complemented by a syndicated B loan of approximately US$300 million to finance Etileno XXI, MexicoÂ’s biggest private petrochemical project, a Braskem-Idesa joint venture. The loan will be granted to Braskem-Idesa S.A.P.I., a joint venture by BrazilÂ’s Braskem SA and MexicoÂ’s Grupo Idesa, to develop, build and operate an integrated petrochemical complex.
